Jim Yong Kim, “Never say Never to the Children's Dream!”

Dr. Jim Yong Kim, The President of World Bank in Supermentor 20, Jakarta.

Indonesia is an extraordinary country. It has many potentials which have been explained before by Bu Sri Mulyani.

How about World Bank?

The goals of World Bank is to end the extreme poverty. The fact is the population who suffer poverty in the world is drop from 35% to 10%. However, 10% of World Population is still high. The world changes every day. Nowadays, almost every person in this world have mobile phone. The impact is the aspirations is rising day by day since people can see the other people life even from the corner of the world. We also can see the rapid changes in technologies. So, the world is changing so fast.
On the other hand, 156 million children under 5 are stunted worldwide. Over 20% children population suffering the diseases in their childhood. Some of them were died, some grows not optimally. How can we become the generation who let them down? But we have to see our world as brighter future. Our next generation must think how we, their recent generation, can solve those problems.

How about Indonesian children?
Almost 48% are stunted. Do you know what does it means? There are 48 children who have height below it should from 100. Many people think that it is caused by the genetic factor. However, the genetic factor only can give impact to the children growth after the age of 5 years.
Kim had an experience in Peru. Peru can reduce stunting 50% in less than a decade. From here we can understand that stunting is fixable. I think Indonesia can do something very similar. There are some good signals from Indonesia. Such as APBN Compositions. There are 31 billion dollars for educating system. And 14 Billion dollars for Health system. It is good move from the government. Hmmh, what we are going to do next? Yes, we as the civil society and youth.
As young generations, we have to share the spirit to coup the stunting problem. We have this big problem and we need to solve the problem together.

“I believe, together we can make Indonesia be a great-great example for the world in solving the stunting. How it can be happened? We need to care more.”

Kim share his own experience about his country, South Korea. He was born in South Korea, but now he is American. In 1950, Korea was a poor country. Korea was a hopeless country. It couldn't afford to pay the world bank debt. But, at that time Korea borrowed money for education and now Korea is become today Korea.

Education is Very Important

We need to develop the dream of our children through education. When I visited one primary school in Africa and I ask about the student's dream there. Two of them raised their hand and stand up without doubt said that they want to be the next President of the world bank. And suddenly I remember myself when I was in Primary School in Korea. I remembered my dream.

"Never ever said impossible to the children's dream."

The last point that I want you to remember, "the aspiration of the people in the world will raise rapidly (including the stunting problem). You have to fill those positive aspiration as a bridge of hope." Start from your care to your country.
